So as I was doing the dishes this morning, the second time in less than an hour, I realized that #alllivesmatter. Not just white lives or black lives or gay/lesbian lives, not just asian lives or men's lives, it's not about whether your a woman or a cop, nope it's not really about any of this. It's an all lives matter thing.
My 4 year old doesn't understand the differences that we have classified between us. As far as he is concerned if you are not human than he needs to figure out what you are and why you are here. If you are human well that's it, that's the end of the story. I'm not saying he doesn't see color or other differences just that they don't matter to him. When he was 3 he told me "mommy when I grow up I'm going to be black like daddy". But that's all it is a color. As far as he knows we come from the same place it's called a house. We are human and that's all that matters to him. I understand that as adults we are more complex in our thinking than that, but the underlying principle is priceless. We are all humans.
As adults we are well aware of the differences between people. We are conditioned by the media to judge one another based on silliness like what we wear and who we associate with. This is one of the main problems with us humans. We seem to be incapable of focusing on how we can help each other and instead we focus on how to tear each other down and pick each other apart.
In order to break down the borders of race, religion, sexual orientation, sex and many other things we need to stop creating them. By naming things we make them real. By classifying ourselves and others into groups we are in affect putting up walls between us. We are giving each other more and more reasons to not like one another by creating more and more groups of people that we either identify or don't identify with. The less groups there are the closer we can all get to being equal. The less boxes we check the more we can be judged on our abilities and accomplishments.
We need to be more child like when it comes to dealing with each other. We are all Humans and #alllivesmatter
That is all.
Oh and the new should be required to air happy stories at least once every ten minutes. This way we are aware of the good in the world just as much as the bad.
